El Sol Park & Learning Center

A Community-Led Vision for Healing, Belonging, and Opportunity

El Sol Park & Learning Center stands as a promise to the community that raised us. This project grew from the voices of parents, youth, elders, and partners who asked for a safe place to gather, learn, heal, and thrive. Every design choice reflects real stories, real needs, and real hopes shared by the families who call this neighborhood home.

This space brings more than a park or a building. It brings dignity. It brings access. It brings a sense of belonging that many communities in San Bernardino have waited for far too long. The center will serve thousands of residents through wellness programs, youth leadership, outdoor education, family support services, and cultural spaces created by and for the people.

A Collaborative Effort

Local partners, nonprofits, foundations, and educators shaped this effort alongside residents. Their collaboration ensures that the center does more than exist; it uplifts. It strengthens connection, builds trust, and expands opportunity for generations to come. From training rooms to green spaces to creative learning environments, the El Sol Park & Learning Center is designed to grow with the community, reflect its culture, and meet its most urgent needs.

A Vision Rooted in Community Voice

Planning for the El Sol Park and Learning Center began in 2013 under the original vision of a Holistic Center. From the beginning, the work was rooted in listening to community voice. Over the years, empathy interviews with residents, families, youth, and CHW/Ps shaped the evolution of the project. Every space and every room was intentionally molded by the stories shared, ensuring the design reflects lived experience rather than assumptions.

As El Sol Neighborhood Educational Center continued serving the community through programs operating across multiple sites, a consistent need emerged. Community members identified the lack of safe green space, limited access to wellness resources, and the absence of a centralized hub for learning and support as ongoing barriers to healthier lives. These insights guided the shift from a single-purpose concept to a multi-use Park and Learning Center designed with and for the community.

A Space for Health, Learning, and Connection

The core focus of the project is to create a permanent, welcoming space where community members, partners, and constituents come together to build healthier lives.
